Dean Thomas holds an old-time threshing demonstration east of Olds

By Kristen Hubschmid

On October 2nd, Dean Thomas, a farmer living east of Olds, fired up a separator, or threshing machine (bought new in 1948), to demonstrate the way harvesting was done before the time of combines. Also on display were a stook loader (approximately 100 years old), several early 1900’s tractors, a binder and more. Neighbours, friends and spectators gathered to get a taste of what harvest time was like over half a century ago.
