Mary Anne Overwater was acclaimed to Town of Olds Council in 2013 as a first time Councillor. Mary Anne was born and raised in a Northern Alberta Farming Community called Peace River. She has one brother and four sisters. Mary Anne graduated from Peace River High School in 1976 and then went to work for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. In 1983 Mary Anne married Ray Stroshin. After 8 years of working for the Bank of Commerce Mary Anne resigned and had her son Stephen Stroshin, whom currently lives in Beaumont, Alberta with his wife Lana and their son Nicholas. Stephen is employed by Suncor Energy. In 1985 Mary Anne had her daughter Jacqueline Stroshin who also lives in Beaumont, Alberta and she is currently employed by Halliburton. In 1990 Mary Anne’s husband was transferred to Dawson Creek, B.C. with Shell Canada and in 1992 the family was relocated to Olds, Alberta. Mary Anne’s husband Ray passed away from a courageous battle with cancer in 2003. In 2011 Mary Anne married local resident, Joe Overwater. Mary Anne has volunteered with many local sport associations in the community along with the education facilities of the Olds Elementary School and the Horizon School. Mary Anne is an active volunteer for the Olds District Hospice Society, and currently is the President of The Legacy Village Condo Corp. Mary Anne enjoys curling, swimming, reading, and spending time with family and friends. In 1998 Mary Anne decided to go back to her banking career working for the Bank of Montreal in Olds. After retiring in 2012 with 14 years of service, Mary Anne decided to pursue a passion of hers which was being involved in local municipal government. She looks forward to her next 4 years of being Councillor for the Town of Olds, enthusiastically promoting our wonderful community to the rest of the world.
